Cross Country | Joe lived in Fresno California from 1975 till his very unexpected passing in December of 2000. Joe had a triple bypass and died from complications 10 days later. He married his high school sweetheart, Susan Martin (class of 67). They were married for 14 years and have a son Joey who is 30 years old and resides in Fresno. Joe and Susan remained lifelong friends.
Upon Joe's graduation, he attended West Valley College for 2 years before he went into the Army and then to Viet Nam. Upon his safe return from Viet Nam, Joe was employed as a route salesman in San Jose and then in Fresno.
He remained close to his family and brother, Neil (class of 65). Two years prior to his passing, Joe remarried, Wendy, his companion for the last few years of his life.
Joe will be remembered and will always live in our hearts as a loving, gentle spirit. He lived to see his son graduate from college, become a Police Officer and marry. He would have been so proud of his son who is now a K/9 Police Officer. Joe did not get to share in the great joy of seeing his first grandson Tyler.
Joe loved his memories of those special high school years, his time participating in sports and his many friends.
Joe's faith sustained him. I will always cherish the time we had with him and be grateful he was in our lives. I knew him since I was 9 and he was truly a brother to me.

Caring Bridge Journal entry by Rosemary Cabania
Today my dear husband, rock, provider, my fortress, my love, went home to be with the Lord. Louie was everybody's best friend, favorite brother, uncle, and best father, and I know you all share my grief and loss.
I'm at a loss for words, I'm sure you all understand. Thank you all dear friends and family for your support through this ordeal.
It is finished, Lou is at peace.

LA Times article on Rick's passing:

|
I lived in the Los Angeles area at the time of his death, and KROQ was my favorite radio station. Apparently Rick was instumental in making it World Famous. I did not know his association until I read the article.
KROQ has been heard in several movies and used for the basis of a movie. Several DJ's were mentioned in the article. Richard Blade was the dance show person in the movie "Girls Just Want to Have Fun". Poor Man was the original partner of Dr. Drew on Love Line. Other DJ's, Swedish Eagle and Freddie Snakeskin have or had shows on satellite radio.

End of Watch: October 15, 1975.
NHP'S FIRST DUTY RELATED DEATH
The death Tuesday of Nevada Highway Patrol officer Gary Vance Gifford, 29 marks the first time in the 26 year history of the NHP that an officer was killed in the line of duty.
Gifford first joined the NHP in July 1969 and had resigned for a period of a few months earlier this year to take the post of assistant chief of the Fallon Police Department. He was reinstated to the patrol in July and was assigned to the Incline Village area where he made his home.
He was patrolling the South Shore Lake Tahoe area Tuesday when he made a routine traffic stop just west of the Cave Rock tunnel. He was shot in the back of the head by a person he stopped, a suspect in a Round Hill Mall Bank robbery.
A native of San Francisco, he served four years in the U.S. Navy before joining the NHP. Gifford, who was divorced, is survived by a son, James, 5: his parents Vance and Edith Gifford of Foster City, Calif.; and a sister, Pamela Vogt of Fremont Calif.

Varsity Swimming | From San Jose Mercury News:
John E. Hanson - Accident Victim Services will be held Tuesday for John Eric Hanson, 17, who died Saturday in a water-skiing accident at Grants Canal, 15 miles southwest of Stockton.
His skies apparently struck an underwater object, hurling him into the rocky canal bank. His mother, Mrs. Nils Hanson, of 1282 Burkett Dr., said she thought he died instantly of a broken neck.
Driver of the boat was Arnold Froese, of 5212 Country Ln., with whom Hanson was graduated in June from Blackford High School and planned to enter Pacific College at Fresno next month.
A native of Los Angeles, Hanson was a member of the Blackford varsity swimming team for three years. He lived here six years and was a member of Boy Scout Explorer Post 424 of Cupertino.
Besides his mother he leaves his father and a brother, Rick, both of the same address.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. at the First Covenant Church, Coe Avenue and Riverside Drive, under direction of Lima, Salmon and Erickson. Burial will be in Oak Hill Memorial Park.

May 29, 2000
Girls Sports | Kathy passed away on May 29, 2000 after a short battle with a rare kidney disease.
After Blackford, Kathy went to San Jose State, was a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority and graduated in 1969 with a degree in recreation administration. She and I met a month before she graduated and were married on Valentine's Day 1970. We had a wonderful 30 year marriage and she spoke often about her high school days at Blackford and the friendships that she acquired from those years.
I sincerely hope that your 40th class reunion is a huge success, Kathy, I know, wishes this also.

20-year reunion
| Holly left us on Sept. 23, 1997 at the age of 51 after a valiant battle with multiple myeloma. I think of her often and will find it difficult to attend this reunion without her but know she wouldn't miss it and will be there in spirit! She was such a driving force for our 20th reunion..couldn't have done it without her help.

Drama and Spirit Commission | Joy Shea, born January 13, 1946 in Oakland, CA, died August 12, 2019 in Cleveland, OH. Joy had a magnetic personality. She was voted the friendliest at Blackford High School in San Jose, CA and went on to get her bachelors degree from Santa Clara University and pursue her passion with acting at the Lifeboat theater. She shared the stage with David Ogden Stiers as well as others who were starting their acting careers.
The first born of John and Dorothy Shea, she was a master of the English language and wrote many short stories and commentaries. In the 60's she participated in antiwar protests, was vocal in her political views, and support of the LGBTQ community. She moved to Cleveland, OH where she lived with her partner and love of her life Rica Ganson. There was never a person who disliked Joy. JOY TO THE WORLD!! She has gone to a better place where she will join her family and loved ones. We will miss her, and as dad would say “we will see her at sundown"
